This development follows a September 12 rebuttal from Gamers Nexus to LG Electronics' denial, presenting fresh packet captures that show an LG television transmitting geolocation data 20 times per minute to the company's advertising subsidiary, even when connected only via HDMI. The rebuttal also included a lawyer's interpretation of relevant user agreements. On September 8, an earlier investigation by Gamers Nexus revealed LG smart TVs scan local networks to map out phones and nearby devices. Tests for this initial report also demonstrated the devices' ability to record audio from the microphone while the screen is off, subsequently sending collected data once an internet connection is reestablished. WebOS is the operating system installed by LG Electronics on its televisions, managing the home screen, app launcher, Magic Remote pointer, voice input, and the integrated LG Channels streaming service.
