STC Group reported record growth in network traffic and demand for connectivity services at the two holy mosques during Ramadan on March 16, 2026. Data traffic at Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah increased by over 21 percent, with 5G networks carrying more than 48 percent of internet traffic, an 18 percent rise from 2025. Earlier, on March 8, the company rolled out the second phase of its ‘New Calling’ initiative, piloting real-time Arabic–English translation during voice calls using AI. This followed its announcement on March 7 of record growth in digital and communication service usage at the two holy mosques during the mid-Ramadan peak. At that time, network indicators revealed a 21 percent increase in data traffic at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and a 40 percent surge at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, with 5G technology handling nearly half of all internet traffic in both locations.
