News Summary:

Major mobile phone carriers, including NTT Docomo, will roll out the Japan Roaming service on April 1, allowing users to connect to other carriers’ networks during large-scale outages, a measure introduced after a significant disruption at KDDI in 2022. Previously, NTT Docomo announced the termination of its third-generation (3G) mobile network service in Japan on March 31, which will render any remaining 3G devices inoperable. Earlier, on March 17, NTT Docomo unveiled new haptic devices under its Feel Tech technology, designed to provide physical and immersive sensations during virtual idol concerts, demonstrating the technology publicly at SXSW in Austin, Texas, with VTuber agency hololive. On March 15, NTT Docomo and Keio University's Haptics Research Center successfully demonstrated high-precision remote robot operation over commercial 5G, leveraging low-latency network slicing (Configured Grant) and Keio’s Real Haptics technology for stable transmission of delicate force feedback and tactile sensations.
