KDDI, also known as KDDI Corporation, is a publicly owned company headquartered in Japan. Founded in 1984, this Japanese telecommunications company employs approximately 2,100 individuals and reported $40.6B in revenue as of 2025. It specializes in providing telecommunications services.
On July 10, 2026, Verizon announced it will provide 5G Standalone and LTE connectivity directly to BMW Group vehicles in the U.S., delivering telematics support for the BMW Connected Drive system in newly manufactured vehicles. This collaboration stems from Verizon’s long-term partnership with KDDI, which supplies its proprietary Global Communications Platform to the BMW Group and offers global connected services to other original equipment manufacturers. Earlier the same day, KDDI revealed it will conduct a feasibility study to explore the deployment of digital solutions using AI-powered drones in Vietnam and the Philippines. This project has been selected to receive subsidies from the Japanese Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry's "Global South Future-Oriented Co-Creation" program, which supports Japanese companies expanding infrastructure and operations in emerging economies.
