Dish Network, also known as DISH Network Corporation, Echostar, and DISH, is a publicly owned company headquartered in the US. It operates as a subsidiary of EchoStar and holds Dish Mexico as a subsidiary. Founded in 1996, the company employs approximately 21,860 individuals and reported $14.3B in revenue as of 2024. The company specializes in media and TV services, offering satellite and OTT services.
EchoStar announced on March 20 an agreement with some of its creditors to settle outstanding debts, paying off USD 1.6 billion in debt as of March 16, according to an SEC filing. The restructuring support agreement involves its pay-TV subsidiaries Dish Network Corp, Dish DBS Corp, and certain DDBS subsidiaries, with an ad hoc group representing more than 82% of DDBS debt security holders. The company stated on March 19 that this agreement addresses approximately $14 billion of outstanding indebtedness, resolves nearly two years of noteholder litigation, and is expected to result in about $6.5 billion in DDBS debt paydown through 2026, potentially paving the way for reengaging DirecTV combination discussions. Also on March 19, DISH Network customers in Michigan experienced a blackout of local TV stations due to a contract dispute, part of a widespread outage that began March 10 after contract negotiations between DISH Network and Gray Media collapsed, impacting 226 local broadcast stations across 113 U.S. markets.
