Magenta Telekom records 50 Gbps fibre speed for first time

Magenta Telekom said it achieved a bandwidth of 50 Gbps in Austria for the first time in a test at the end of last year. In the trial, the operator reached total throughput of 49.5 Gbps over a single fibre-optic cable and 50G-PON port. Magenta Telekom deployed an interface to receive signals from three different PON technologies, namely GPON, XGS-PON and 50G-PON. The latter is the successor to XGS-PON and enables transmission speeds of up to 50 Gbps.
