The International Ice Hockey Federation confirmed on March 16, 2026, that Esbjerg will serve as the second host city, alongside Herning, for the IIHF Women’s World Championship 2026 in Denmark, scheduled for November 6-16. Earlier, on February 10, five Canadian coaches led ten women’s teams in Milan, including Troy Ryan for Canada, Carla MacLeod for Czechia, Jeff MacLeod for Germany, Colin Muller for Switzerland, and Eric Bouchard for Italy. On February 8, the U.S. women’s team, the reigning world champions, secured a 5-0 victory over Switzerland, with Caroline Harvey and Joy Dunne each contributing a goal and two assists, extending their perfect 3-0 record in Group A. This followed the Swedish women’s team advancing to the quarter-finals of the 2026 Winter Olympics on February 7, after a 4-0 win against France that increased their lead atop Group B. Previously, on January 31, Romania clinched the gold medal at the IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Division II Group B Championship by winning four consecutive games after an initial loss.
