Irish Rugby Football Union, also known as IRFU, is a privately owned entity headquartered in Ireland. Founded in 1879, with approximately 320 employees, it reported $85.7M in revenue as of 2024. The company functions as the governing body for rugby union on the island of Ireland.
Ireland head coach Andy Farrell revealed on March 16, 2026, that discussions regarding his future are imminent, as the Rugby Football Union (RFU) reportedly admires him amidst growing pressure on England boss Steve Borthwick. Previously, on February 1, the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) appointed Smurfit Westrock as its official sustainability partner to advance its long-term strategy across representative teams and over 250 affiliated clubs. This followed former sports broadcaster Lauren Guilfoyle earning her PhD in Youth Rugby Union Injury from the University of Limerick on January 26. Earlier, on November 20, 2025, the IRFU reported a €4.2 million loss, expressing optimism that the new Nations Championship could boost broadcast revenue for the sport. This came after Aviva renewed its naming rights deal for Aviva Stadium in Dublin for an additional five years, extending the sponsorship until 2030, in an agreement made on November 10, 2025, with the IRFU and the Football Association of Ireland. Sources familiar with the deal estimate its value at approximately US$30.13 million over the five-year period.
