Sony Group, also known as Sony Group Corporation, is a Publicly Owned company headquartered in Japan. Founded in 1946, it employs approximately 110,000 individuals and reported $85.6B in revenue as of 2024. The conglomerate, with consumer electronics roots, designs, develops, produces, and sells electronic equipment and devices, and is also engaged in content businesses, such as console and mobile games, music, and movies.
Sony Group's shares declined 5.4% on March 20, 2026, following a downgrade by Bernstein earlier in the month. The brokerage cited rising AI-driven memory demand, which tightened chip supply and increased prices, raising concerns about cost pressures on the company's PlayStation hardware and image sensor businesses. This downgrade, which brought Sony Group into focus on March 19, questioned the earnings resilience of its PlayStation and image sensor operations due to these higher memory costs. Meanwhile, on March 19, Akira Shimizu, president of the Sony-owned A-1 Pictures, announced the development of new software designed to serve as the foundation for future anime production, aiming to address outdated technology and slow production times. Previously, on March 18, Sony Group received recognition for the eighth consecutive year as one of the "World's Most Ethical Companies" by the Ethisphere Institute.
