SoftBank Group, also known as SoftBank Group Corp, is a publicly owned company headquartered in Japan. Founded in 1981, it operates with approximately 500 employees, specializing in IT services and IT consulting. The SoftBank Group functions as a holding company, SoftBank Group Corp. (TOKYO: 9984), for its global portfolio of companies that include telecommunications, Internet services, AI, smart robotics, IoT, and clean energy technology providers. Arm Limited, a semiconductor IP company, joined the SoftBank Group in September 2016.
SoftBank-backed OPay Digital Services Ltd. moved closer to a potential listing on the United States capital markets on May 2, targeting a $4 billion valuation. This follows OPay's official intent on May 1 to pursue a U.S. IPO, enlisting Citigroup Inc., JPMorgan Chase & Co., and Deutsche Bank AG to lead the offering. Also on May 1, SoftBank Group announced plans to spin off Roze, a new AI and robotics venture, targeting a U.S. IPO with a valuation of up to $100 billion. Roze will reportedly focus on automating data center construction to address rising AI compute demand. Earlier the same day, a data-center developer sold $999 million of junk bonds for a project leased to a SoftBank Group Corp. subsidiary, funding artificial intelligence infrastructure efforts.
