Masayoshi Son's vision for a massive $500 billion artificial intelligence (AI) data center complex in Ohio emphasizes the critical need for electricity to power AI, rather than focusing solely on performance. On March 22, SoftBank announced its $500 billion plan to construct this AI data center in Piketon, Ohio. The company highlighted the project as the largest construction endeavor in U.S. history, expected to significantly enhance America's standing in AI. This announcement followed Son’s formal launch of the AI data center plan on March 20 (local time), during which he attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a gas-fired power plant in Piketon, Ohio. Concurrently, Son established the "Portsmouth Consortium," uniting corporations participating in the data center and power plant projects with a Japan–U.S. consortium.
