On June 8, 2026, the U.S. Space Force awarded contracts to Intelsat and Viasat for the first two operational satellites under its Protected Tactical SATCOM – Global (PTS-G) program, aimed at developing a jam-resistant satellite communications fleet. Previously, on May 26, 2026, the satellite communications and broadcasting industry mourned the passing of Gaurav Kharod, Intelsat’s Regional Vice President for Asia-Pacific (APAC). Earlier the same day, SES cancelled the IS-41 and IS-44 geostationary (GEO) satellites. Intelsat, which SES acquired last year, had originally ordered these crafts in 2022 as part of its post-bankruptcy growth plan, intending them to serve EMEA and Asia.
