Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, also known as MDR and Central German Broadcasting, is a state-owned public broadcaster headquartered in Leipzig, Germany, with regional studios in Dresden, Erfurt, and Magdeburg. Founded in 1992, it employs approximately 1,160 individuals. The company reported $764.5M in revenue as of 2024. Functioning as a tier 1 media tech buyer, it serves as the public broadcaster for the German federal states of Thuringia, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt. As a member of the ARD consortium of public broadcasters in Germany, MDR broadcasts its own television channel to the three states it serves, contributes programming to the first German TV channel (Das Erste), and broadcasts a number of radio channels.
