Founded in 1996, the company, formerly known as LG Telecom before changing its name on July 1, 2010, specializes in telecoms. Functioning as the second-largest wireless carrier in South Korea, it reported 18.411 million subscribers as of Q4 2023. On March 21, LG Uplus, alongside SK Telecom and KT, experienced a mobile traffic surge of more than double usual levels in Seoul's Gwanghwamun Square during a BTS comeback concert. Earlier on March 20, LG Uplus announced it would end its "Fabri Kitchen" operation this month, a solution test store for small business owners it had operated since 2024 as part of reorganizing its solution business. Also on March 20, LG Uplus showcased advanced telecommunications technologies for the water industry at the International Water Industry Expo (WATER KOREA) in Busan, becoming the first telecom operator to participate and presenting a range of AIoT water management solutions from remote meter reading to infrastructure safety monitoring.
