News Summary:

FIBA announced on September 15, 2026, that the 2030 Women's Basketball World Cup in Tokyo will avoid back-to-back games, acknowledging the increasing influence of the WNBA. This decision follows the 2026 World Cup in Berlin, which saw WNBA player participation rise significantly from approximately 30 to 70 and a 200% increase in WNBA merchandise sales outside the United States. Previously, on September 14, FIBA extended its global partnership with Swiss watchmaker Tissot, prolonging their collaboration into a third decade. This renewed agreement, which makes Tissot the third sponsor to join FIBA's new sponsorship cycle and continues an 18-year relationship, secures the company's position as FIBA’s Official Timekeeper and Global Partner for an upcoming cycle that includes major events such as the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2030 in Japan and the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2031 in France. Earlier, on September 12, four young talents gained hands-on experience in sports media during the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Berlin as part of the "She Calls Game 2026" initiative, for which FIBA announced winners in April.
