Crunchyroll, a privately owned company headquartered in the US, is a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Founded in 1994, it employs approximately 560 individuals and is a tier 1 media tech buyer. The company specializes in Media and TV services, focusing on dubbing and distributing East Asian Media content. It was renamed from Funimation in March 2022 when Sony integrated its existing anime services, including Funimation and Wakanim. Since 2019, Funimation has been managed through a joint venture between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment Japan. Crunchyroll licenses anime series and distributes them through its SVOD and AVOD streaming platforms.
On April 30, 2026, Crunchyroll announced that the English dub for *NEEDY GIRL OVERDOSE* is scheduled to begin streaming on the platform. Also on April 30, the *Black Clover* manga concluded its serialization with a three-chapter finale, and the *Someone Hertz* manga made its appearance in the latest Jump Music Video. Previously, on April 29, the *ONE PIECE Fest* was announced to touch down for the first time in North America this August. Additionally, on the same day, the Art of Manga Exhibition was slated to head to the Brooklyn Museum in October.
