News Summary:

On September 17, 2026, newly appointed news chief Simon Robinson refused to rule out further job cuts across the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s news division during an internal town hall, only four days into his role. Earlier on September 17, the Australian Media Communications Authority (ACMA) determined that the ABC’s Four Corners program "Sacrifice," featuring the Australian War Memorial Development Project, breached the ABC Code of Practice by not treating the AWM with due impartiality. This followed the ABC making 46 production roles redundant across its Screen division on September 16, impacting camera crews, technicians, and post-production staff in Melbourne and Sydney. This marked the second significant round of redundancies since managing director Hugh Marks' appointment, occurring months after the national broadcaster cut 40 permanent digital roles and ended 10 contracts. Previously, on September 15, the ABC and the Sydney Morning Herald, in partnership with the University of Sydney, announced the inaugural Judith Whelan Leadership Fellows, an initiative to support and develop women leaders in Australian media.
