Airtel India, also known as Bharti Telemedia Ltd, is a privately owned company headquartered in India. It is a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel. Founded in 1995, and employing approximately 61,800 individuals, the company reported $15.1B in revenue as of 2024. The company functions as a national telecoms provider in India.
Airtel Africa's money transfer and payments unit, Airtel Money, plans a smaller London float, targeting at least USD800 million, down from a previously projected USD1.5 billion to USD2 billion, Bloomberg reported on September 18, 2026. This follows Airtel Africa's decision on September 17 to wind up its Kenyan wholesale fibre and internet subsidiary, Airtel Kenya Telesonic, after two years of operation due to losses and an inability to establish a viable commercial business. The unit will be struck off the companies register by December 2026. Also on September 17, a drive test by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) indicated that Bharti Airtel recorded the highest average upload speed in Chennai at 34.21 Mbps, though Reliance Jio delivered the fastest average mobile download speed. Earlier, on September 16, Zambia's telecom sector saw the Zambia Information and Communications Technology Authority (ZICTA) cancel Beeline Telecoms’ license, reinforcing the continued market control by Airtel and MTN in the region.
