Valve Corporation, a privately owned company headquartered in the US, was founded in 1996 and has approximately 1,160 employees. The company specializes in computer games and also makes video games, hosts the Steam video gaming platform, and manufactures gaming peripherals.
Steam Deck users were warned on March 22, 2026, about playing the #1 best-selling PC game on Steam due to its "Unknown" compatibility status and poor performance on the device. Earlier on the same day, a survey polling 826 game industry workers found that 88.4% believe Valve should require developers to disclose any use of generative AI on its storefront. Previously, on March 21, Derek Clark, a developer on Valve's Linux engineering team, posted an OneXPlayer Configuration HID Driver for Linux, continuing his work on improvements for gaming handheld devices such as those for Lenovo Legion and Ayn. Also on March 21, the FBI issued a public statement warning about seven Steam games containing hidden malware and asked affected victims to come forward. This follows news earlier that day that Valve is experimenting with running the Steam client inside a full container environment on Linux, a development that would isolate the client and its games from the host operating system, potentially altering desktop gaming on the platform.
