SportsMax is a privately owned company headquartered in Jamaica, owned by operator Digicel. Founded in 2002, the company employs approximately 90 individuals and reported $19.0M in revenue as of 2024. It functions as a tier 1 media tech buyer, specializing in media and TV services as a Caribbean sports broadcaster.
On July 10, 2025, Digicel Group's Chief Business Officer Liam Donnelly confirmed the closure of two key media brands, Loop News and SportsMax, describing the decision as part of a broader restructuring strategy that sent shockwaves through the regional media landscape. Previously, on July 8, 2025, Professional Jamaica Football Limited (PFJL) and the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) announced they were searching for new broadcasters for their respective football products following the closing of SportsMax. Digicel had stated on Tuesday that SportsMax would shut down on August 8 after 23 years of operation in the Caribbean. Earlier that day, Digicel Group confirmed it would exit consumer media to focus on enterprise services, immediately shuttering its loss-making Loop News and winding down regional subscription TV broadcaster SportsMax by August 8, signalling a major shift in the telecoms firm’s media strategy.
SportsMax currently holds 32 broadcasting rights for sports competitions including rugby league, winter sports, tennis, athletics, field hockey, basketball, multi-sport, rugby union, aquatics and swimming, horse racing, soccer | association football, cricket, motorsports and baseball.
