The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) on March 22, 2026, dismissed claims that political pressure influenced its decision not to recommission its current affairs program ‘Face the Nation’. The public broadcaster issued a statement refuting a media report that alleged the program was ending due to pressure from the ANC and government. Previously, on March 20, the SABC appointed Deidre “Dee” Uren as News and Current Affairs Group Executive, with her tenure beginning April 1. SABC Group Chief Executive Officer Nomsa Chabeli announced the appointment. Earlier, on March 19, Efficient Group chief economist Dawie Roodt suggested two options for eliminating the SABC TV licence without affecting the public broadcaster’s operations: full privatization or funding through existing taxes. This proposal aligns with the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies' ongoing consideration of alternative funding models for the SABC as part of amendments to the SABC Bill.
