Rugby Europe is a privately owned organization headquartered in France. Founded in 2014, with approximately 50 employees, the organization reported $18.2M in revenue as of 2023 and is a tier 3 media tech buyer. Functioning as the administrative body for rugby union in Europe, Rugby Europe was renamed in 2014 after the split of FIRA-AER, which had been formed in 1999 to promote, develop, organize, and administer the game of rugby in Europe under the authority of the International Rugby Board, the world governing body of rugby union.
Following the conclusion of the Women’s Rugby Europe Championship, which saw Las Leonas secure their ninth consecutive title, Rugby Europe announced the "Team of the Tournament" for the 2026 edition on April 22. Earlier, on April 20, Denmark’s women’s team claimed the Melrose Claymores Sevens title in Hong Kong, overcoming Thailand 17–14 in a tightly contested final. This invitational tournament was played alongside the Hong Kong Sevens. Previously, on April 2, Sweden prepared to host the Women’s and Men’s Rugby Europe Trophy action, where Sweden and Germany were set to determine the Women’s Rugby Europe Trophy title winner. Sweden had previously won 18-7 against Finland in October, and Germany had defeated Finland 68-0 in February as part of the three-team event.
