International University Sports Federation, also known as FISU, is a non-profit organization headquartered in Switzerland. Founded in 1949, and operating with approximately 170 employees, the organization primarily focuses on athletics and multi-discipline sports. It functions as the world governing body for national university sports organizations, responsible for the organization and governance of worldwide sports competitions for student-athletes between the ages of 17 and 25. FISU currently encompasses 165 member associations, which are National University Sport Federations, across five continents.
Over 150 participants from five continents gathered in Sweden for the Östersund 2026 FISU World Forum on August 24, 2026, where discussions focused on healthy campuses as essential for global wellbeing and excellence. Earlier, on June 8, 2026, Team Canada achieved two podium finishes at the 2026 FISU World Cheerleading Championships, securing silver in the All Female Elite division and bronze in Coed Premier. The Canadian All Female Elite team, composed of University of Alberta student-athletes, had entered the competition as defending world champions. This follows the International University Sports Federation, the China Student Sports Federation, and the Changchun government jointly signing the host contract on November 26, 2025, for the 33rd FISU Winter World University Games, slated for 2027 in Changchun, northeast China's Jilin province.
