On July 10, 2026, Huawei joined over 20 Chinese technology companies and research bodies, including China Mobile and Baidu, to launch OPEN NPO, China's first multi-source agreement for near-packaged optics, aiming to standardize high-speed optical interconnects for AI supernodes. Previously on the same day, Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Hussein Eissa, discussed Huawei's expansion plans in the Egyptian market and opportunities to strengthen cooperation in digital transformation, technology localization, and digital skills development. Concurrently, Huawei is reportedly developing a successor to its MateBook Fold, a foldable screen laptop launched in May, with a mild refresh expected in the second half of the year. These developments occur amid broader discussions concerning China's growing influence in Africa, where its investments in information technology architecture challenge the United States' presence and could provide African states opportunities to grant the People’s Liberation Army access.
