Wesleyan University, a privately owned entity headquartered in the US, founded in 1831 with approximately 2,140 employees, functions as a tier 1 media tech buyer. The institution operates as a private arts university.
On April 30, 2026, *The Wesleyan Argus* published an article examining how the university’s emphasis on convenience may undermine its sustainability efforts. On the same day, *The Argus* also detailed Wesleyan President Michael Roth’s 229 appearances in the publication prior to his presidency, primarily linking his early presence to student organizations, academic recognition, and campus culture discussions. Previously, on April 28, Middletown residents and some Wesleyan University students raised concerns that the college is not paying its "fair share" for the city services it uses and properties it owns, despite its non-profit status exempting it from income or property taxes. Wesleyan sophomore Brendan Barry formed the Good Neighbor Project this spring semester to address these issues. Earlier, on April 27, Dr. Katherine Brunson, Chair of the Archaeology Department, highlighted the university’s osteology collection and other natural history artifacts displayed in the Science Library. This follows the Usdan Marketplace’s restoration of reusable plastic dishes and metal utensils on April 20, ending weeks of single-use tableware that began around April 5 due to a boiler problem.
