Tacoma Community College will host its 24th Annual Juried Local Art Exhibition from June 30 to August 20, 2026, with an exhibition reception scheduled for July 16. The exhibition will feature a memorial display of work by sculptors Rowena Forde and Jeanette Otis, who maintained long-standing affiliations with the college. Previously, on June 11, the college's Board of Trustees approved Professor Phil Hunter for Professor Emeritus Status. Hunter, a Physics and Chemistry professor, is retiring this year after more than 30 years of teaching at the college. In May, Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society, named Tacoma Community College student Julia Cater as a World Impact Scholar, recognizing her pursuit of a degree supporting economic opportunity and workforce needs. The college also released its 2018 Annual Report in May, which included a message from President Dr. Ivan Harrell emphasizing the importance of supporting the whole student and citing data on Pierce County adults lacking high school credentials and young adults not employed or in school.
