Vodafone Idea, also known as Vi, is a publicly owned company headquartered in India. The company was founded in 2018, following the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular, and employs approximately 30,540 individuals. It reported $5.2 billion in revenue as of 2025. Functioning as an Indian telecom operator, it specializes in providing mobile services, broadband, and passive infrastructure services. Its offerings include 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G wireless services, alongside high-speed broadband.
On July 9, analysts projected Vodafone Idea to achieve gradual operational recovery in Q1FY27, despite ongoing financial challenges, with the broader Indian telecom sector poised for steady growth driven by premiumisation and improved average revenue per user (ARPU). This outlook noted that Bharti Airtel would likely lead with stronger profitability and subscriber additions. Previously, on July 8, industry experts anticipated consistent operating performance for India’s telecom operators for the three months ended June, as customer premiumisation continued to boost ARPU without fresh tariff hikes. On July 6, Vodafone Idea shares rebounded after four straight sessions of decline, despite a consortium of lenders requesting a revised business plan and additional safeguards before approving a Rs 35,000-crore loan package. Earlier on July 8, the ITAT Mumbai ruled that only the net profit element embedded in unaccounted sales was taxable for Vodafone Idea Limited, directing the computation of addition by applying a 2% net profit rate, acknowledging both direct and indirect business expenses. This activity followed a July 7 report from Centrum Institutional Research, which predicted Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio would continue to expand their subscriber bases at Vodafone Idea's expense, extending a persistent trend.
