Sony Sports Network, also known as Sony Pictures Sports Network and Sony TEN, is a privately owned entity headquartered in India, functioning as a tier 1 media tech buyer. A subsidiary of Sony Group and Sony Pictures Networks India, the company was established in 2002 and focuses on content rights. It operates with approximately 130 employees and reported $56.5M in revenue as of 2023. The company is a group of Indian pay television sports channels owned by Culver Max Entertainment. Its origins trace back to the original TEN Sports channel, established on April 1, 2002, by Abdul Rahman Bukhatir. Essel Group acquired TEN Sports in 2010, integrating it with its existing Zee Sports channel, launched in 2005. Following this acquisition, Zee launched TEN Cricket and TEN Golf, rebranding Zee Sports as TEN Action. In August 2016, Sony Pictures Networks India acquired all of Zee's sports channels from Essel. By 2017, these networks were formally merged with Sony's existing Sony ESPN and Sony Six channels, forming Sony Pictures Sports Network, with the TEN channels rebranded as Sony TEN. The channels underwent another rebranding in October 2022 to Sony Sports Network, with all five channels now using the "Sony Sports Ten" prefix.
Sony Sports Network recently secured exclusive broadcast and digital streaming rights for the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, scheduled from September 19 to October 4 in Japan. Earlier, on April 16, the network announced its 2026 cricket calendar under the new ‘Goonjega India’ campaign. This initiative details plans to broadcast 10 major India series across television from May 28 through Diwali, with nine of these series also available for streaming on Sony LIV.
