RNZ is a State Owned entity headquartered in New Zealand. Founded in 1995, the company operates with approximately 590 employees and reported $44.0M in revenue as of 2024. The company specializes in broadcast television and radio, functioning as a Crown entity established under the Radio New Zealand Act 1995. RNZ broadcasts over three nationwide networks, RNZ National, RNZ Concert, and the AM network, which relays Parliamentary proceedings. It also operates Radio New Zealand Pacific, an overseas shortwave service broadcasting to the South Pacific and beyond, and Radio New Zealand News, which provides news and current affairs information. The National and Concert networks are funded by New Zealand On Air.
On April 24, 2026, the Broadcasting Standards Authority (BSA) dismissed a complaint against two RNZ National news bulletins from Right to Life. The complaint alleged breaches of balance and accuracy standards regarding RNZ's reporting on comments made by Magma Healthcare Director Dr. Simon Snook about an increase in abortions in 2024, but the BSA did not uphold the complaint.
