Amidst an ongoing "siege" against its operations, which stakeholders view as undermining press freedom, Nation Media Group (NMG) shareholder Wafula Oguttu stated on July 4, 2026, that the company would not dismiss its managers or editors to meet government demands during negotiations over the closure of Daily Monitor and NTV Uganda. Earlier the same day, sources indicated NMG considered removing or reassigning its Uganda Managing Director Susan Nsibirwa as part of efforts to resolve the standoff with the Ugandan government, which had halted Daily Monitor and NTV Uganda's operations. This followed NMG Uganda's directive on July 1, 2026, for its editorial teams to immediately suspend all online publishing and broadcasting, a move that silenced its major digital platforms as senior management engaged state officials to resolve the impasse.
