Founded in 1999 and employing approximately 4340 individuals, the company reported $8.5B in revenue as of 2025 and operates as a tier 1 media tech buyer. It specializes in technology, information, and internet services, functioning as a South Korean tech platform and search engine. Naver's operations extend through its subsidiaries, which include LINE messenger, SNOW camera app, the digital comics platform NAVER WEBTOON, the group social media platform NAVER BAND, and the metaverse platform ZEPETO.
Online platforms, including Naver, continue to grapple with the reappearance of illegal loan advertisements impersonating government-backed financial products for vulnerable borrowers, prompting calls for authorities and internet portals to implement preventative measures beyond a "detect and delete" approach to protect potential victims at the search stage on September 18, 2026. Previously, on September 17, Naver decided against acquiring Baedal Minjok (Baemin), Korea's largest food delivery platform. This decision followed about four months after reports in May indicated Naver was considering forming a consortium with Uber for an 8 trillion won acquisition of the platform. Also on September 17, a domestic distribution broker faced apprehension for selling large quantities of counterfeit K-beauty and K-health products on online open markets, including Naver, by falsely presenting them as genuine. Earlier the same day, Naver announced plans to acquire a stake in Gurin Energy’s 216 MW Jindo Green Solar project and committed to purchasing renewable electricity from the facility under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
