Multichoice Group, a privately owned company and subsidiary of Canal+ Group headquartered in South Africa, operates in Broadcast Media Production and Distribution. On July 10, 2026, French media group Canal+ officially completed its acquisition of MultiChoice, making the African broadcaster a wholly owned subsidiary. Canal+ CEO David Mignot announced the integration, stating MultiChoice has entered a new phase. This completion follows earlier scrutiny on July 10, as Canal+ declined to comment on allegations that it breached Competition Commission conditions related to retrenchment commitments. These alleged violations, which surfaced on July 8 from a MultiChoice insider, include claims of constructive dismissals and setting unachievable sales targets for DStv resellers, thereby purportedly breaching a three-year moratorium on retrenchments. Previously, on July 9, an insider reported MultiChoice plans to shut its DStv service centre in Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal, after many employees accepted voluntary severance packages from Groupe Canal+. Separately on July 9, Nolo Letele, a veteran credited with pioneering MultiChoice’s expansion over more than three decades, now chairs an Internet service provider reselling Starlink across Southern Africa.
