Primarily involved in semiconductor manufacturing, the company functions as a fabless semiconductor enterprise that focuses on solutions for smartphones, digital televisions, and connectivity products.
On September 18, MediaTek announced its Dimensity 9600M processor, which Vivo and OPPO are expected to be the first to use. Earlier the same day, reports suggested that the shift to advanced 2nm technology in chips could increase the cost of next-generation flagship smartphones, with some processors potentially exceeding $200 per unit for manufacturers. This follows MediaTek's official unveiling on September 17 of its next-generation flagship processor, the Dimensity 9600 Pro. Fabricated using TSMC’s 2nm process, this new system-on-chip marks MediaTek’s entry into the first wave of 2nm mobile semiconductor designs. The Dimensity 9600M, while sharing the same 3nm process, CPU, GPU (Mali-G1 Ultra), and APU 990 setup as the Dimensity 9500, integrates newer AI features, including the Agentic AI Engine and Dimensity Scheduling Engine. Previously, on September 16, TSMC secured MediaTek for 2nm production, a move that strengthens TSMC's position against competitors like Samsung and Qualcomm.
