News Summary:

On March 5, 2026, the International Fencing Federation (FIE) invited athletes to an International Training Camp in Rio de Janeiro, offering a preparation opportunity for the upcoming Cadet & Junior World Championships. This followed the Salt Lake City Women’s & Men's Sabre World Cup from January 22-25, where Sarah Noutcha of France achieved a personal best, securing her first World Cup gold medal by defeating two-time World Champion Misaki Emura of Japan 15-14 in a field of 184 fencers. Previously, on January 22, the FIE stripped Estonia of its right to host the European Championship, reportedly due to Estonia's refusal to admit fencers from the Russian Federation and Belarus; France will now host the championship. On January 20, Costa Rica’s Junior and Cadet Epee World Cups received the Ecological Blue Flag for the second consecutive year, building on the 2024 Junior World Cup recognition. Earlier in January, the FIE highlighted fencing's role in Italy, where dozens of women are using the sport to return to the piste after breast cancer.
