News Summary:

On June 24, 2026, the Future TV Taskforce, which includes UK public service broadcasters and free TV platform Everyone TV, broadly welcomed the proposals in the government’s Media Green Paper, aimed at securing the long-term sustainability of public service media. Earlier in June, on June 7, Dennis Reed, Director of the senior citizens' organization Silver Voices, stated that switching from traditional terrestrial television to internet-powered broadcasts would "force the whole population to pay for broadband in order to watch TV." Previously, on June 3, Everyone TV's Freely platform announced it had surpassed one million users, with viewership more than doubling in six months. The platform is predicted to significantly overtake Freeview as the UK's primary free TV service in less than a decade. This follows a June 2 projection, presented by Everyone TV based on data from 3 Reasons, that Freely, the free-to-air streaming television service co-owned by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, and Channel 5, is expected to reach 10.5 million homes by 2034.
