ETV

ETV, also known as e.tv and eMedia, is a privately owned company headquartered in South Africa, operating as a tier 2 media tech buyer. Founded in 1998, the company, which has eMedia as its parent company, employs approximately 1600 individuals and reported $76.4M in revenue as of 2024. ETV functions as South Africa's independent free-to-air commercial television network, described as the primary operating engine of JSE-listed eMedia Holdings Limited. It launched as the country’s first private terrestrial channel, breaking the state-owned SABC’s monopoly, and has since captured over 20% of the prime-time audience share in the nation. The channel operates on a commercial advertising-funded model, providing broadcast television and radio. Its programming includes international films, multilingual local soap operas such as Scandal! and House of Zwide, and youth blocks under its Craz-e banner. ETV is distributed across South Africa via high-definition digital terrestrial television, major pay-TV direct-to-home networks like MultiChoice DStv, and through eMedia’s own subscription-free Openview satellite infrastructure.
