CBS Television Stations, privately owned and headquartered in the US, was founded in 1941 and employs approximately 280 individuals. Operating under its parent company, CBS, it reported $1.7B in revenue as of 2024, functioning as a tier 1 media tech buyer. The company specializes in broadcast television and radio. It operates as a division of the CBS Entertainment Group unit of Paramount Skydance Corporation, owning and operating a group of American television stations along with CBS News. As of January 2021, the division owned 28 stations, comprising 15 core stations of the CBS television network, two affiliates of The CW, ten independent stations, and one primary-channel affiliate of the digital subchannel network Start TV. It also maintains a half-interest in Start TV, which is co-owned with Weigel Broadcasting.
On March 22, 2026, Nielsen ratings data revealed a broad decline in evening news viewership across all three major networks, including CBS, during the week of March 9, affecting both total viewers and the key Adults 25-54 demographic despite ongoing global events. Previously, on March 21, CBS announced its decision to cease its radio news operations, with CBS News Radio airing its final report on Friday, May 22. This closure marks the end of an era for the service, which broadcast news and information for 99 years and was long considered one of the country's best radio newscasts. The shutdown, effective May 22, will also discontinue America's longest-running newscast, World News Roundup, and terminate service to 700 affiliate stations. On March 20, Detroit's WWJ was confirmed to lose CBS News programming as a result of the network shutting down its radio unit, a move that coincides with a new wave of layoffs.
