Audible, an Amazon subsidiary, opened what it termed its first "bookless bookstore" in New York on Friday, May 2, 2026, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, amidst increasing consumer adoption of audiobooks. On May 1, the audiobook giant introduced this listening lounge and community hub in Lower Manhattan, a three-floor space designed for in-person browsing. Instead of traditional books, the store features "Story Tiles" allowing visitors to sample from over 300 audiobooks, including titles like *1984*, *Frankenstein*, *Heated Rivalry*, and *The Fourth Wing*. Earlier, on April 30, Audible announced the opening of this 6,000 square-foot listening space at 260 Bowery, specifying its operation from May 1 through May 31.
