Functioning as the content engineering and commissioning core for American Broadcasting Company (ABC), the group maintains broadcast operations in Burbank, California, and New York City, controlling programming, scheduling, and brand positioning for one of the national broadcast networks and delivering entertainment to households across the United States.
Former Federal Communications Commission officials and free speech watchdogs on September 18 urged a federal judge to halt the commission's early review of ABC broadcast licenses in eight markets, including New York and Los Angeles, citing First Amendment concerns. Earlier, on September 17, Disney stated that ongoing threats by President Donald Trump against reporters and broadcast networks provide grounds for a U.S. judge to block the FCC from an early review of Disney's eight ABC station licenses. This followed ABC's response to the FCC's justification for calling in its eight owned station licenses for early renewal, where the company argued in a legal filing that the agency failed to refute "substantial evidence" of a Trump "retaliatory motive." On the same day, a bipartisan coalition of former high-ranking FCC officials filed an amicus brief supporting ABC’s request for emergency relief in its lawsuit challenging the FCC’s early review of the network’s broadcast licenses.
