This followed ABC's formal protest on July 7 to a Federal Communications Commission investigation into "The View," where it cited the First Amendment, stating the government should not "sit in the editor's chair." Earlier, on July 4, ABC's "Nashville’s Star-Spangled Bash," hosted by Ryan Seacrest, achieved the #1 primetime ranking, drawing 5.435 million total viewers and a 0.83 rating among Adults 18-49, marking the first time in 16 years another network topped NBC for the July 4th special.
