The World Economic Forum (WEF) is a Swiss-based non-profit organization employing approximately 4950 people. Its primary activity is facilitating public-private cooperation to address global challenges and improve the state of the world. The WEF's work focuses on various international issues through the organization of events and the publication of reports and analyses.
The World Economic Forum (WEF) recognized Pearl GTL, the world’s largest gas-to-liquids facility, as a member of its Global Lighthouse Network on an unspecified date. This marked the first time a Qatari facility received this recognition. Separately, the WEF included osmotic power systems in its top 10 emerging technologies to watch in 2025. In another report, the WEF warned that unaddressed climate change could cause 14.5 million excess deaths and over $1.5 trillion in economic losses by 2050, primarily affecting vulnerable regions. Finally, Tüpraş’s İzmit Refinery also joined the WEF’s Global Lighthouse Network as one of the most advanced Industry 4.0 production facilities.
