The World Boxing Council (WBC) will present a special "Tollan Topiltzin" belt to the winner of the Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn fight scheduled for September 12 in Las Vegas. Previously, on August 12, the WBC threatened to strip Noel Mikaelian of his cruiserweight title after Zuffa Boxing announced a fight against Jai Opetaia for September 12, conflicting with an earlier agreement made by his promoters for Mikaelian to defend his title against Benavidez in December in Glendale, Arizona. Earlier, on August 5, William "El Camarón" Zepeda captured the WBC Lightweight World Championship in Las Vegas, defeating former world champion Lamont Roach. This followed the WBC's collaboration with NAS Medical, announced on July 1, to enhance boxer health, safety, and medical governance across the sport.
