Garrett Kaalund earned recognition as the 10th USATF Athlete of the Week for 2026 on March 19, after bettering the American and collegiate records in the men's 200m with a time of 19.95 seconds at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships. Kaalund's performance surpassed the previous records of 20.02. Previously, on March 16, USA Track & Field announced that its team would not compete in the men's or women's 4x400m events at the 2026 World Athletics Relays, scheduled for May 2 and 3 in Gaborone, Botswana. On March 15, Jordan Geist, an assistant track & field coach at Slippery Rock, was named to the USA Track & Field World Championship roster to compete in the shot put at the World Championships in Poland on March 22. This followed USA Track & Field's announcement on March 12 that 57 athletes would represent Team USATF at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland.
