Founded in 1885 and employing approximately 4,120 individuals, it functions as a private Catholic research university with campuses in Saint Paul and Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. The institution was originally founded as a Catholic seminary and is named after Thomas Aquinas, the medieval Catholic theologian, philosopher, and patron saint of students.
