The company, initially named Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio and later Walt Disney Studio and Walt Disney Productions before adopting its current name in 1986, established its early presence in the animation industry with the 1928 short film *Steamboat Willie*, which utilized synchronized sound and introduced Mickey Mouse as a corporate icon.
