A new study from The University of Texas at Austin found on May 2 that 160 million small wetland patches release nearly one-quarter of methane emissions from wetlands outside forests, a discovery that necessitates climate accounting to treat these tiny scattered wet grounds as active emitters. This follows the university receiving its first-ever $1 billion investment on May 1, when the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation announced Michael and Susan Dell had become UT Austin’s inaugural billion-dollar supporters to fund the UT Dell Medical Center. Earlier, on April 29, The University of Texas at Austin named Bradley Staats as the next dean of the McCombs School of Business; Staats, who currently serves as the Ellison Distinguished Professor of Operations and senior associate dean for strategy and academics at the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School, will begin his appointment on July 1.
