The Arab States Broadcasting Union, also known as ASBU, is a non-profit organization headquartered in Saudi Arabia. Founded in February 1969 in Khartoum and operating with approximately 50 employees, the entity focuses on media production. Functioning as one of the oldest pan-Arab institutions belonging to the League of Arab States system, ASBU's core objective is to strengthen ties and promote cooperation among broadcasters in the Arab States for the purpose of production and content development.
The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) participated in the World Broadcasting Union (WBU) meeting and the 96th General Assembly of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) in Prague, Czech Republic, from June 24 to 26, 2026. This followed its participation from June 22 to 24, 2026, in the 58th Ordinary Session of the Higher Coordination Committee for Joint Arab Action in Amman, Jordan, at the invitation of the Association of Arab Universities, where ASBU joined a tribute to Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit. Earlier, ASBU strengthened media cooperation from May 11 to 14, 2026, at the 21st Asia Media Summit and its accompanying events in the Maldives, following an invitation from the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD). Previously, ASBU took part in the EBU Media Summit 2026, organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), held from April 21 to 24, 2026, in Sofia, Bulgaria, which brought together more than 150 participants from 37 countries.
