Telespazio, a privately owned company headquartered in Italy, was founded in 1961 and employs approximately 940 individuals. The company operates in Defense and Space Manufacturing, specializing as a designer and developer of satellite systems and downstream applications. Its activities range from the development of space systems to the management of launch services and in-orbit satellite control, encompassing Earth observation services, integrated communication, satellite navigation and localization, and scientific programs.
On April 29, 2026, Italy marked the 40th anniversary of its first internet connection, which utilized the antennas of Telespazio’s Fucino space Centre to link CNUCE in Pisa to the U.S. ARPANET. Earlier in April, on the 1st, e-GEOS, a joint venture 80% owned by Telespazio and 20% by the Italian Space Agency, entered a multi-year cooperation, marketing, and distribution agreement with VENG, an Argentine company 97% owned by CONAE. This agreement grants VENG global distribution rights for data from the SAOCOM satellite constellation, with the Italian Space Agency managing distribution in Europe and the Mediterranean. Previously, on March 29, Telespazio joined a select group of organizations to voluntarily support NASA’s Artemis II mission tracking, making its expertise and infrastructure available to monitor radio signals from the Orion spacecraft. This follows a March 8 statement from Marzio Laurenti, Telespazio’s chief executive in Brazil, who projected an expansion of satellite projects across Latin America in the coming years, attributing this trend to rising global geopolitical tensions driving increased investment in space communications infrastructure.
