Radio Televizioni Shqiptar, also known as RTSH, is a state-owned entity headquartered in Albania, founded in 1938 with approximately 100 employees. It reported $24.0M in revenue as of 2024. Functioning as the national public broadcasting company of Albania and a tier 1 media tech buyer, it operates several radio and television channels over a domestic transmitter network and via satellite. Its international television service, RTSH Sat (formerly TVSH Sat), launched in 1993, is aimed at Albanian-speaking communities in Kosovo, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and northern Greece, as well as the Albanian diaspora in the rest of Europe. The broadcaster is funded by commercial advertising, an annual licence fee of US$10.00, and grant-in-aid from the Albanian government, and is an active member of the European Broadcasting Union.
Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) awarded a two-year, 899.2 million leks ($11 million) contract for the maintenance of its digital broadcasting infrastructure to a consortium led by Idea-Tel on May 8, 2026. Previously, on March 6, 2026, European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Director General Noel Curran expressed full support for RTSH Director General Eni Vasili, praising her work and offering EBU assistance for the broadcaster's reform. This support followed a reaction on January 17, 2026, from the Union of Albanian Journalists to Prime Minister Edi Rama's announcement about the potential closure of RTSH, with the union stating its categorical opposition. Rama's warning on January 16, 2026, brought into focus the deep crisis and long-standing structural problems accompanying the public broadcaster, which faces a diminished role in the public space. Earlier, on December 2, 2025, Director General Vasili stated that achieving gender equality within RTSH and the broader Albanian media remains a daily struggle.
