Radio Televizioni Shqiptar, also known as RTSH, Albanian Radio and Television, and Radiotelevizioni Shqiptar, is a state-owned entity headquartered in Albania. Founded in 1938 and operating with approximately 100 employees, the company reported $21.1M in revenue as of 2023. Functioning as a tier 1 media tech buyer, the company specializes in broadcast television and radio, acting as the national public broadcasting company of Albania. It operates multiple radio and television channels via a domestic transmitter network and satellite. Its international television service, RTSH Sat (formerly TVSH Sat), launched in 1993 and targets Albanian-speaking communities in Kosovo, Serbia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and northern Greece, alongside the Albanian diaspora across Europe. RTSH is funded by commercial advertising, an annual licence fee of US$10.00, and grant-in-aid from the Albanian government, and is an active member of the European Broadcasting Union.
On March 6, 2026, European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Director General Noel Curran expressed full support for Radio Televizioni Shqiptar (RTSH) Director General Eni Vasili, praising her leadership and offering EBU assistance for the public broadcaster's reform during an exclusive interview with RTSH journalist Sonila Agostini. This followed a strong reaction on January 17, 2026, from the Union of Albanian Journalists to Prime Minister Edi Rama's announcement about potentially closing the Albanian Public Radio Television, with the union stating it would issue an official stance against the proposal. On January 16, 2026, Prime Minister Rama's warning brought into focus the deep, long-standing crisis, structural problems, and diminished public role faced by RTSH. Previously, on December 2, 2025, RTSH Director General Eni Vasili stated at the National Conference on gender equality in media that gender equality at RTSH and in Albanian media remains a daily struggle, highlighting the broadcaster's continuous efforts to find solutions. In November 2025, RTSH showcased its role in preserving Albanian tradition and culture at the “Klik Expo Group” fair, presenting historical artifacts and materials, and also secured exclusive broadcasting rights for the Ski World Championship.
