New Japan Pro-Wrestling, also known as NJPW, is a privately owned company headquartered in Japan. Founded in 1972, the company operates with approximately 50 employees and specializes in martial arts. Functioning as a Japanese professional wrestling promotions company, it has been owned by Bushiroad since 2012.
On September 14, 2026, English-language play-by-play announcer Walker Stewart signed a contract extension with New Japan Pro-Wrestling, securing his full-time position while keeping the door open for appearances with AEW. Previously, on August 17, NJPW announced that Young Lion Yushin Hatazawa would debut at Korakuen Hall on September 9 as part of the Road to Destruction tour, following over a year in the dojo after trying out in 2024. Earlier, on August 16, Jeff Cobb returned to NJPW during the G1 Climax 36 final, targeting United Empire's leader Callum Newman and joining Unbound Co. This marked Cobb's first appearance in the company since April 2025, following a stint in WWE as JC Mateo. This followed an announcement on July 20 that Bushiroad, New Japan's primary owner for over a decade since acquiring it from Yukes in 2012, sold all its shares to television partner TV Asahi and CyberAgent in May. Takaaki Kidani, Bushiroad's founder, indicated that the WWE/Netflix deal influenced the decision to sell.
