Linear Acoustic is a privately owned company headquartered in the US and is a subsidiary of Telos Alliance. Founded in 2002, the company employs approximately 20 individuals and reported $1.2M in revenue as of 2024. The company focuses on audio solutions, specializing in the design and manufacture of the AEROTM range of real-time and file-based loudness managers, UPMAX upmixing solutions, loudness metering products, and standards-based codecs for distribution and emission.
California's new loudness regulation, SB 576, now mandates that advertisements on streaming platforms must match the perceived volume of primary content, aiming to eliminate sudden volume spikes during ad breaks, a rule familiar from broadcast television, effective March 20. Earlier, on March 18, the rise of streaming, particularly for sports, resurrected loudness issues, characterized by the dynamic audio levels and transient volume spikes inherent in live sports production, reminiscent of broadcast commercial volume problems from fourteen years ago. This focus on audio control follows Syndicate of Sounds' announcement on March 3 that its Deja Vu stereo-to-5.1 upmixer technology integrated with three Telos Alliance audio platforms: the ZipStream R/20, Linear Acoustic LA-5300, and Linear Acoustic UpMax ISC. The integration represents a natural partnership, given that Syndicate of Sounds was founded by Frank Foti, also founder of Omnia Audio and executive chairman of the board for Telos.
