KADOKAWA Corporation revealed plans on May 1, 2026, to expand its retail presence in the U.S. through a large chain of manga-focused bookstores. This initiative includes establishing a new business unit, KADOKAWA Retail Ventures LLC (KRV), which will assume operations of the 10 existing Manga Spot stores from parent company KADOKAWA World Entertainment Inc. (KWE). This move follows an April 28 announcement by the company regarding a new corporate structure and the appointment of a CEO with substantial retail experience to oversee the rapid expansion of its North American brick-and-mortar chain. Earlier, on April 30, KADOKAWA introduced the KADOKAWA WORLD MANGA ATELIER (KWMA), a new global initiative to support manga creators outside Japan. The program, which officially began services on the same day, provides ongoing development opportunities, editorial access, and pathways toward professional publication, aiming to expand the industry’s creative pipeline beyond its traditional geographic base. Also on April 30, LINE Digital Frontier Corporation, which operates WEBTOON's Japanese-language service, launched STUDIO WHITE, a joint venture established with KADOKAWA and Korea's REDICE Studio. This collaboration aims to develop mega intellectual property for the global market, exemplified by the unveiling of a spinoff webtoon of the Japanese fantasy classic *Record of Lodoss War*.
